Financial Resources for Artists

I’m still temporarily shut-down here at Nickelson Editions, but I wanted to share a few resources geared towards artists that I’ve found through various means.

The Center for Maine Contemporary Art has done a great job compiling a list of resources for artists (geared towards Maine, but not exclusively). This includes many resources that provide emergency funds or other financial assistance to artists.

The Maine Arts Commission has launched The Maine Artist Relief Fund that will award grants of up to $500 to individual Maine artists how are being adversely impacted by the pandemic. The awards cycle is open through June 30th.

The Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA has been a good source of artist resources, too, particularly on Facebook.

The first US stimulus package includes much-needed support for arts organizations as well as expansion of unemployment benefits to independent contractors and the self-employed (the typical status for the working artist). Details on how to apply for this are beyond my knowledge, but I would start with organizations such as Americans for the Arts for info…though I suspect things will be pretty vague for a while as to how to take advantage of this.

Stay safe out there!

Back in the Studio

I am done with my long journey out to the northern Rockies and am now back in Maine. I'm slowly catching up on things as I get back up to speed (losing power for two days didn't help!), so if you are still waiting on a response for me, let me know!

It will take a long time to go through all of my photographs, but it was a wonderful trip. 9000 miles of driving, nine national parks (5 in the U.S., 4 in Canada), about 15 snowstorms of various intensities, and approximately 5500 photographs.

Upcoming closings

I'll be away from my studio the weeks of March 19th and April 16th. In both cases I'll still have e-mail access so please feel free to contact me with any printing questions or requests. I'll be back in my studio from this first trip on March 26th.

Each year on my 56x56 blog I send out a call to readers for their favorite photograph they took or created in 2017 (you can see the list from 2016 here and from 2015 here). Soon I’ll do a new post for 2017 and include any submitted photographs (along with a link if you’d like). I always love to see what everyone has come up with over the year. So send along your favorite photo (email: jim@jimnickelson.com) if you’d like to be part of this fun project…

Upcoming Time Away

I'll be on a family trip later this month and will be out from Tuesday, June 20th until Monday, July 3rd. If you need anything before that timeframe please let me know as soon as possible, and otherwise I can help out once I return in July. I will have email access while I'm away, too, if you'd like to contact me.

Closed for July 4th Week

I'll be away from my studio this week camping and will be back in the office again on Monday, July 11th. Please feel free to leave me a message if you need to contact me during that timeframe as I don't expect to have any Internet coverage where we'll be camping.

Upcoming Time Away in March

Coming up soon in the first half of March, I'll have limited availability for printing. I'm teaching a workshop at Maine Media the week of Feb. 29th-March 4th, 2016, and will have limited ability to print during that timeframe. From the end of that workshop until March 17th, I'll be out-of-state and unable to create any prints. Please contact me to discuss any issues.

Upcoming Time Away

I'm heading West next week for an artist residency at Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona. I'll thus be far from my printer and unable to print for clients until my return to the office on November 17th (and will be somewhat limited in time even then through Thanksgiving, but will do my best).

I should still have email communication on my residency, albeit slow. If you have any prints you need before my departure, please contact me as soon as possible (and definitely by this Friday, October 20th).
